Redeemed. I looked up the meaning, and redeemed means “to restore the honor, worth, or reputation of.”
Also, it means “to recover ownership of by paying a specified sum.” Not, to own by paying a specific sum, to RE-own by paying a specified sum. It’s reclaiming something that is already yours by paying for it again.
The word “redeemed” has been bogarted by Christianity in some sense, but haven’t we all been redeemed?
When we realize our inherent worth, that we are deserving of honor and respect, when we value ourselves. When we take back our birthright, and honor ourselves as perfectly unique artistic creations. Worthiness does not have prerequisites, yet constantly we are trying to earn our worth, to prove our worth to the world around us.
I have been redeemed: and not only by God. I have been redeemed by myself. I have looked for my value and worth, and I have reclaimed it. I have declared I am beautiful and deserving of love. I have said I am ENOUGH. Right now. Where I am.
It has been a hard won battle. ((Some days I still fight it.)) But redemption is a process: a process I repeat when I forget that God didn’t make a mistake when he made me who I am. A process I repeat when shame tells me I’m not worthy (and I believe it). A friend of mine (Angie) sent this song to me for Good News Monday, but it’s a good reminder for every day.
